Heritage Saskatchewan’s first Ever Virtual Annual General Meeting

On February 25th, Heritage Saskatchewan members and staff gathered virtually for our 11th Annual General Meeting (AGM). Check out our Annual Report for our 2019-2020 year in perspective.

Following the AGM, a board meeting was held, at which point the Board elected Emma Morris as their President and  Erin Folk as their Vice President; this results in Tomasin Playford automatically moving into the position of Past President.

We offer sincere gratitude to the Directors leaving our Board, including Bula Ghosh, Elaine Smit, Gloria DeSantis, and Past President, Alicia Buckley. These individuals dedicated their time, knowledge, and expertise during their time on the Heritage Saskatchewan Board helping shape what our organization is today. And for that, we are truly thankful.

Along with our returning Directors, Chad Debert, Emma Morris, Erin Folk, Haven Rees, Katie Willie, Tamara Pearl, and Tomasin Playford, we are excited to welcome three new Directors, Amanda Tobin, Brooke Laliberte-Pewapisconias, and Tim Panas. Read a bit about them below or check out our Board of Directors page for their full biographies.

Amanda Tobin

Amanda is a Métis mother of three from La Loche working at the Gabriel Dumont Institute as an Employment Counselor. Her educational journey in Indigenous studies has led her to a passionate interest in her family history, and history of the lands and communities that surround those stories. She believes that those deep emotional connections to buildings, land, communities, and culture are at the heart of what makes heritage so valuable.

We’re looking forward to Amanda’s contributions to our board that will impact areas including land-based knowledge, reconciliation and the preservation of land, buildings, language, and culture.

Brooke Laliberte-Pewapisconias

Brooke is a proud Nehiyaw woman from the Canoe Lake Cree Nation in Treaty Ten Territory in Northern Saskatchewan. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Management from the University of Saskatchewan and a Business Administration Diploma from the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology. She is currently a Coordinator, Human Resources with Nutrien, but has also worked with the City of Saskatoon, and Wanuskewin Heritage Park.

While Brooke has a strong understanding of board governance, structure, and policies, her involvement with indigenous communities has taught her to connect with the land and traditional way.

Dr. Timothy Panas

Tim’s professional background in the fields of heritage conservation and outreach, education, cultural resource management, and non-profit governance is extensive, encompassing over 25 years and obtained from organizations and institutions from across Canada and the United States. Professionally, his primary area of interest has been the archaeology of western North America with a focus on the pre- and post-European contact periods of the Canadian prairies.

As a Director for Heritage Saskatchewan, Tim brings extensive experience in working with a board and staff in developing the governance policies needed to oversee the successful operation of a heritage organization within Saskatchewan. With over two decades of experience in the heritage field, as well as his time working within board-overseen organizations, he makes a valuable contribution to Heritage Saskatchewan in meeting their mandates of promoting research in the province, facilitating community resilience, and offering all who reside in the province with a strong and communal sense of place.
