It was a shock of pain, a momentary discomfort, It drew blood. I winced, sucked my fingertip, finished my errands. I enjoyed the rest of my day. I was able to get on with my life, unlike the soldiers I was remembering. The tender fingertip lingered the rest of the day. The tender gratitude will last the rest of my life. J. M. 2003
