Remembering a Soldier (just a kid)
[caption id="attachment_738" align="alignright" width="223"] Ernie Murray. Farm kid, enlisted age 19. Gave his life "For King and Country" age 20.[/caption]
To Uncle Ernie - Forever 20
Today I poked my finger on the pin of a Remembrance Day poppy.
It was a shock of pain,
a momentary discomfort,
It drew blood.
I winced, sucked my fingertip, finished my errands.
I enjoyed the rest of my day.
I was able to get on with my life,
unlike the soldiers I was remembering.
The tender fingertip lingered the rest of the day.
The tender gratitude will last the rest of my life.
