Sep 25, 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE For the fifth year a row, Saskatchewan residents are celebrating Culture Days, along with the rest of the country, from September 26 – 28 this year. Culture Days is an across-Canada collaboration that encourages people to celebrate the cultural life in their communities by participating in a range of arts and cultural activities taking place Culture Days weekend, all of which are free of charge! And, for the fifth year in a row, the government of Saskatchewan has officially proclaimed Culture Days in Saskatchewan, recognizing the important role cultural activity has in ensuring a strong quality of life in this province. "On the 40th anniversary of the first provincial Multicultural Act passed in Canada, it's important to remember that the quality of life we cherish in Saskatchewan is embedded in our provincial motto-'From Many Peoples Strength',” said Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Mark Docherty. "The Government of Saskatchewan takes great pride in proclaiming Culture Days in Saskatchewan and celebrating our province's cultural diversity." According to Pat Grayston, SaskCulture president, “Culture Days continues to grow in popularity each year. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the diversity of cultures here in Saskatchewan, whether it is through visiting an art gallery or artist studio, exploring different heritage sites, or sharing and learning the traditions, languages and performances of a particular culture. People are encouraged to give something new a try. It’s a great way to get to know the various people that make up your community.” Culture Days in Saskatchewan is supported by SaskCulture, thanks to funding from Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. Culture Days is a pan-Canadian initiative that made its debut in 2010. This year, over 7,500 activities have been registered for Culture Days from across Canada, with over 250 activities taking place in Saskatchewan in more than 50 communities. Culture Days puts the spotlight on arts and cultural activities, and helps us all recognize the important contribution they make to our quality of life. Special guests and dignitaries are officially kicking off Culture Days in Saskatchewan on September 25, noon hour, at City Hall in Saskatoon.
