Standing Up for the Canadian Register of Historic Places
You may have heard that Parks Canada will be taking the Canadian Register of Historic Places (the Register) down in spring 2026. The existing database is at the end of its technological life. There is no plan for its replacement. Together with the Museums Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) we have written a letter to The Honourable Julie Dabrusin, Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature and The Honourable Wade Grant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to express our serious concerns about the decommissioning of the Register, and the loss of this data to the public.
Read our letter to the Minister.
Take Action!
The National Trust for Canada has written a detailed response with instructions of who to contact if you want to join Canada-wide efforts to find a solution to keeping this data useable. Read their response and instructions here. The loss of the Register will be a hindrance to our work to ensure heritage places strengthen quality of life, foster belonging, and support community well-being.
In Saskatchewan they recommend contacting the following:
