Friday, February 23rd - Morning Session; Luncheon & Speaker; AGM

Registration: 8:30 am – 9:00 am
Morning Session: 9 am – 12 noon: Plan to attend our morning session where delegates will participate in the KAIROS Blanket Exercise* (a teaching tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada). This will be followed by an information session about Wanuskewin Heritage Park, where you will find out what it means for Wanuskewin to be added to Canada’s World Heritage shortlist and why it matters.
Luncheon & Speaker: 12:00pm noon to 1:30pm
Annual General Meeting: 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Our luncheon presentation will feature Wanuskewin Heritage Park. This National Historic Site on the edge of Saskatoon has been gaining prominence lately for its work on an application for World Heritage designation. Behind the scenes, a dynamic and engaged team of community leaders and volunteers have been raising money, elevating the profile and engaging in a multi-faceted renewal project called Thundering Ahead. Join Zeba Ahmad, Thundering Ahead Volunteer and Tara Janzen, Wanuskewin Development Manager to learn about the importance of community partnerships, volunteer engagement and government relations in heritage conservation.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: Heritage Saskatchewan’s AGM will take place following the Luncheon Program.

*Trigger Warning: The KAIROS Blanket Exercise walks through difficult experiences, such as Indian Residential Schools, the Sixties Scoop, violence against Indigenous women and girls, and other policies that have adversely affected Indigenous peoples. Cultural and health support will be provided during and after the exercise.
